{"id":984,"date":"2012-06-26T12:17:38","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T16:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.acupunctureinmichigan.com\/?page_id=984"},"modified":"2019-03-25T18:24:31","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T22:24:31","slug":"frequently-asked-questions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.acupunctureinmichigan.com\/about\/frequently-asked-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Frequently Asked Acupuncture Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is acupuncture?<\/strong><br \/>\nAcupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles at various points on the body\u2019s surface to improve physiological functioning of the body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the goal of acupuncture?<\/strong><br \/>\nThe goal of acupuncture is to restore balance and health by promoting an even and plentiful circulation of qi and blood throughout the body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does Acupuncture do?<\/strong><br \/>\nAcupuncture mobilizes and regulates qi and blood to invigorate the physiological function of muscles, nerves, glands and organs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Qi?<\/strong><br \/>\nQi (pronounced \u201cchee\u201d) is an energy force that runs throughout the body. A person\u2019s health is influenced by the flow of qi in the body. If the flow of qi is unbalanced, insufficient or interrupted, illness may occur. Qi is an invisible force known only by its effects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are meridians?<\/strong><br \/>\nMeridians are pathways throughout the body in which qi travels. There are 14 main meridians running vertically up and down the body, twelve of which correspond to organs. These meridians are the same on both sides of the body. Like qi, you cannot see meridians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are the needles sterile?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes, all the needles are disposable and used only once. After use, they are discarded in a bio-hazard container.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does acupuncture hurt?<\/strong><br \/>\nNo. At insertion, the patient may feel some heaviness, tingling, a slight pinch or a sensation running up and down the meridian. After the needles are in, the patient often feels very relaxed; some even fall asleep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How deep do the needles go?<\/strong><br \/>\nNeedle insertion is generally very shallow. Insertion varies according to the nature of the problem, the location of the points selected and the patient\u2019s size and age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How many treatments will I need?<\/strong><br \/>\nEach person is unique. Treatment protocols vary depending upon what exactly is being treated. For example, when treating an injury or pain, we can often tell within three-to-four visits if acupuncture will have a positive effect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there anything I can do to improve my acupuncture experience?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes: Relax.
