This year has truly been a life-changing experience for me, which is why I selected Winning Futures to be supported by the National Cares Mentoring Movement for resources to mentor more students.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mentors in the Winning Futures Program prepare students to have successful careers and personal lives through the development of character values, goal setting, and strategic plans. Students find their mentoring experience invaluable.\u00a0 Mentoring provides students with an opportunity to learn about other professions, and to meet someone outside the classroom who can provide guidance, share personal and professional experiences, and serve as a role model. Winning Futures makes it easy because they provide mentors with a structured setting and topic-based activities to complete with their mentees.<\/p>\n<p>If you are motivated to help youth in your community and are willing to make the commitment, you can mentor! As a mentor, you can select which school you want to work with, and you will be asked to:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attend a three-hour training session.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Participate in an interview and background check.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work with two or three students <strong>on a scheduled weekday for one hour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>during school hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Help students identify their character values, set goals, explore<\/p>\n<p>careers, build employability skills, and prepare for the future through fun activities.<\/p>\n<p>Winning Futures programs are conducted in the classroom and program staff are always on site to provide support.<\/p>\n<p>School-based mentoring programs serve youth from Detroit, Oak Park, Pontiac, Sterling Heights, and Warren.\u00a0 We can also link you with other mentoring programs.<\/p>\n<p>If you have questions or are interested in becoming a mentor, you can reach the Winning Futures staff at (586) 294-8449.<\/p>\n<p><em><a title=\"Winning Futures Website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.winningfutures.org\/\">http:\/\/www.winningfutures.org\/<\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winning Futures is a non-profit that I&#8217;ve worked with in the past.\u00a0 They pair mentors with at-risk youth. \u00a0The time commitment is minimal yet it is very rewarding. \u00a0Can you imagine giving a child the encouragement and self esteem to let them know that they can truly accomplish their dreams?
