Q: What can I do to improve my health as we enter the New Year?
A: Many of us see the New Year as an opportunity to make resolutions to make this year better than last. It can be difficult to make major life changes in a short period of time, so I always recommend starting things slowly and methodically. For me, diet and supplements are my best attempt to stay healthy. The more I think about diet, the more stressed I become. Therefore, I always stick to the basics! Fruits, vegetables and protein (in the form of nuts, eggs, and poultry) are my goals for a healthy diet. Am I perfect? Absolutely not—any of my colleagues will tell you about my sweet tooth. But another part to maintain good habits is having tolerance for imperfection. If we expect perfection of ourselves at all times, we are doomed for failure. Each day, I create a mental “check list” of my daily goals—did I eat enough greens? Did I eat a balance of fruit and vegetables? This is most helpful at the end of the evening, when hunger sets in and I start to crave a sweet treat!
