When I reflect on my journey to the present day, the word that comes to mind is trust. I trusted all along the way. I am the resident CranioSacral Therapist at MAAIM but I am so much more. I am a wife, mom, educator, vegetarian, ferocious reader, lover of bad jokes and overall happy human being. I have been with my husband for 25 years and am the mom to two brilliant, precocious, hilarious and kind hearted 4 years olds (yes, twins). Our family’s journey began where my passion for science started.
I am a graduate of University of Detroit Mercy (Go Titans!). As a graduate student, I spent countless hours in the library and lab. I poured my heart and soul over biology books, dissections, laboratory projects and presentations. My goal was to be a neuropsychologist. After receiving my Master’s degree, I took a short (so I thought) sabbatical. In that time, I got married and life happened. I had always hoped to go back for my doctorate but I trusted that all would come together. Since my first year in college, I worked in alternative care which led me to receive CranioSacral therapy. I initially sought the care for some jaw pain I had been experiencing but I found it be helpful for even more. I noticed that it really relaxed me (total Type A) and helped me to focus better on my studies. I felt that it helped to integrate me. I made sure to schedule my appointments prior to all presentations and tests. In the years after graduation, I worked in a chiropractic clinic and we needed a massage therapist. After several interviews, I had a revelation…I could do this! With my degrees and experience in anatomy, I knew that massage therapy school would be no problem. My only requirement would be that I would specialize in CranioSacral Therapy. With CranioSacral Therapy, I could finally integrate my love of neuroscience with manual therapy. While I was still a student at Irene’s Myomassology Institute, I began my studies with the Upledger Institute. I quickly enrolled in class after class in CranioSacral and related modalities. I graduated in 2003 and I began my practice. I have remained heavily involved with Upledger by studying and graduate assisting. In 2008, I became a certified presenter and instructor of Introductory CranioSacral Therapy for Upledger and Irene’s Myomassology. I am also the CST study group leader for Detroit. In addition to CranioSacral Therapy, I also practice Lymph Drainage and Visceral Manipulation. I blend these techniques into all of my sessions.
I will be celebrating my 5 year anniversary with MAAIM this May….time does fly! Thanks for trusting in me and making me a part of your family! Thank you to my clients for trusting your care in my hands. I am honored. Trust has been my mantra through this whole journey. Trust yourself, your mind, your intuition, your heart and your hands. Trust. The universe won’t steer you wrong!
You are such a beautiful person, Jennifer. I am blessed every time I place my TRUST and my health into your healing, capable hands! Thanks for being a part of my journey. God bless you.
